Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away & become something better. It’s about befriending who we already are. ~Pema Chodron
What is Expressive Arts Meditation?
It is as simple as it sounds - the melding of expressive arts with meditation & mindfulness practice, to create a blend of multi sensory, body based experiences, used to be present for & to explore what is showing up in the moment.
Recent studies have shown a correlation between meditation practice & increases in creativity, flexibility, resilience, & openness to novelty, all important for navigating the stressors of life. From a more traditional standpoint, meditation practice helps us touch upon the infinite, inventive, creative power that is within us (Paramahansa Yogananda) & introduces us to the simple & potent practice of connecting to ourselves. Expressive Arts Meditation taps into both the recent & traditional wisdom, integrating creativity & meditation in a way that frees us from patterns of thought & conditioning that keep us stuck, & helps us connect in meaningful ways to the world around us.
If you are interested in meditation, are a creative person, or have found it difficult to meditate in more traditional ways, this approach may be for you!
